Great Lakes Introduces New Polymer Stabilizer Solu
Dusseldorf, Germany, October 26--Great Lakes Chemical Corp has announced an innovative concept in polymer additive solutions that is tailored to specific application or processing needs and enables the resolution of previously unanswered polymer stabilizer demands. The polymer industry is under increasing pressure to achieve higher performance and production targets for more demanding and more diverse applications. To stay competitive, equipment must run faster and at higher temperatures, thereby challenging the physical characteristics of the polymer. Great Lakes introduces three optimized and flexible additive systems that are customized to meet specific polymer stabilization requirements that until now have remained unfulfilled in the industry. Anox(R) FiberPlus, Anox(R) CompoundPlus, and Anox(R) ProcessPlus allow the polymer manufacturer or compounder to achieve higher performance targets at an efficient cost. Anox FiberPlus has been developed for the process stabilization of polypropylene(PP) fiber grades. It allows manufacturers to achieve good process stability and outstanding color protection of the fiber grade, in addition to excellent gas fading resistance of the resulting polymer. UV stability and long term heat aging can also be adjusted to specific requirements by Anox FiberPlus blends, based on the required durability and UV protection of the finished product. These blends also offer a unique performance versus cost solution by allowing a significant reduction in peroxide consumption. Peroxide is traditionally added to increase the melt flow index and to narrow the molecular weight distribution of PP. PP fibers are used in a wide variety of finished goods from hygienic and medical goods such as disposable diapers to durable products such as carpet pile and backing or outdoor clothing. Anox ProcessPlus products are tailored to the process stabilization of polypropylene and high density polyethylene (HDPE) and allow the polymer manufacturer to achieve higher productivity under more severe processing conditions. The systems offer excellent melt flow protection, which means that the physical properties of the polymer are maintained, in addition to outstanding color protection, benefiting aesthetically sensitive applications such as product packaging. PP and HDPE polymers are used in various applications such as film production and components made from injection or blow molding. Anox CompoundPlus products are designed to address the specific needs of plastics compounders, offering tailor-made solutions to their day to day challenges. Plastic compounds serve a whole variety of plastics applications. "We have successfully developed an innovative concept that is so flexible and solution orientated it will help solve many problems experienced by our customers to-date," commented Maurizio Butti, executive vice president of polymer stabilizers. "Application focused blends are proprietary developments based on our broad additives portfolio, extensive additives knowledge, and unique expertise in blending technology. Such a combination, we feel, is a great answer to the challenges faced by the polymer industry today." Great Lakes solutions concepts are available as powder blends or in NDB(R) (No Dust Blend) granular form. Each blend contains exactly the correct composition of additives required to achieve optimum polymer quality and productivity.
