G-P Director Dies While On Trip To Argentina

Atlanta, GA, Nov. 19--Georgia-Pacific director Jane Evans died suddenly while on a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, the company said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Evans, 59, of Paradise Valley, AZ, apparently died from a bacterial infection while on a trip sponsored by the Chief Executive Organization. Evans, chief executive of Internet licensing company Opnix Internet Technologies and former manager of US West, joined Georgia-Pacific's board in 1994. Her term was to have ended May 2, 2006. The company will miss Evans, who was "a valued member of the Georgia-Pacific family," said Pete Correll, chairman and chief executive said in a message to the company's 61,000 employees. "I, along with the entire board of directors, am shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of our friend and colleague, Jane Evans," Correll said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this very difficult time." The company said it is too soon to determine whether it will replace Evans.
