Google's New Search Tools, Updated Desktop

Mountain View, CA, May 11, 2006--Google Inc., said Wednesday it is upgrading its desktop software and introducing a range of new products. The company said it would launch three search products: Co-op, Desktop 4, and Notebook, along with a tool that lets users examine billions of searches to learn about broad search patterns. Google said the products draw user communities, letting users share information with others or benefit from others' experience to improve the accuracy of their own searches. In Co-op beta, users can contribute their knowledge and expertise to improve searches for others. Organizations, businesses or individuals can label web pages relevant to their areas of expertise or create specialized links to which users can subscribe. Desktop 4 beta lets users personalize their desktops with mini-applications that deliver a variety of personalized information such as games, media players, weather and news. It also lets users access their content and settings from other computers and save it online. The tool Trends helps users find facts and trends related to Google usage around the world, checking how popular a particular search term has been and see relevant news articles that ran on that subject. Notebook lets users clip text, images, and links from the pages they're browsing, save them to an online "notebook" that is accessible from any computer, and share them with others.
