European Producers' Laminate Sales Fell in 2018

Hannover, DE, January 15, 2019-The Association of European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF) announced that global sales for the category fell 4.6% in 2018, totaling 455 square meters.

In the category’s strongest market historically, Western Europe, European producers' sales were down in 2018, as they were in North America. Growth was reported in Latin America and Asia, while sales were stable in Eastern Europe. In the North American market, sales fell 10.4% to 44.3 million square meters year over year, with Canadian sales falling 24.5%, and U.S. sales falling 2.4%.

While the laminate market had two good years in 2016 and 2017, the 2018 drop was a serious decline was significant with multilayered flooring challenging the category.

The EPLF is celebrating its 25thanniversary this year and will convene for its annual meeting July 5 and 6 in Antwerp, Belgium.

This year, the organization is focused on researching moisture resistance and micro-scratches/polishing effects.
