Clarksburg, WV, June 18--Stockmeier Kunststoffe, a German manufacturer of polyurethane products, plans to open a facility in Harrison County.
Company officials and Gov. Bob Wise announced the decision Tuesday.
Wise said the company plans to buy a 29,000-square-foot shell building in the county's Business and Technology Center. The facility, which is expected to employ up to 25 people, will be Stockmeier Kunststoffe's first manufacturing site in the U.S.
"This announcement represents the first German investment in West Virginia since the opening of the state's European trade office in Munich in 1999," Wise said.
West Virginia's proximity to the company's U.S. market and raw material suppliers was a key factor in the decision, said Edwin Martinkat, managing director of Stockmeier Kunststoffe.
Stockmeier Kunststoffe manufactures polyurethane products such as coatings, adhesives, sealants, castings and binders for such industries as electrical, filter and sports flooring.
