Georgia-Pacific Resolved 12,500 Asbestos Claims In
Atlanta, May 12--Georgia-Pacific Corp. said that it resolved 12,500 asbestos claims in the first quarter, bringing its total settled or dismissed cases to 282,200, according to the company's quarterly report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Georgia-Pacific reported 10,400 asbestos claims filed during its first quarter, compared with 8,100 claims filed in the same period last year. The company's 12,500 resolved claims in the first quarter compares with 7,700 claims resolved in the same period last year.
Georgia-Pacific said it had 66,700 unresolved asbestos claims in the quarter, compared with 62,600 claims in the same period last year, according to the filing.
