Furniture, Flooring Retailer Reopens in Pennsylvan

Harrisburg, PA, November 8, 2005--A furniture and flooring store has reopened in the Harrisburg area with the original owner determined to restore its good name, according to the Patriot-News. Good's Furniture & Flooring at 4405 Lewis Road in Swatara Twp. is back in business after a difficult couple of years under different ownership. Richard Good, who opened the store in 1984, sold his 17-store chain, including a store along the Carlisle Pike in Hampden Twp., to Breuners Home Furnishings Corp. in 1996. Breuners, which owned a total of 47 stores, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2004 and has since been dissolved. The two local Good's Furniture stores had closed after liquidation sales. Meanwhile, Good found he just couldn't stay out of the business. In 1997, he opened Richard's Flooring, which he had operated from the 60,000-square-foot Wolf Furniture store in Swatara Twp. for several years and at other locations. In February, he opened Richard's Furniture & Flooring in the former Good's Furniture stores in Dover and Swatara Twp. He had retained ownership of those buildings. In July, Good, along with his wife, Annetta, and partners Frank Barrett and Joe Cassidy, both former employees, bought back the Good's Furniture name for $16,000 from the bankruptcy estate of Breuners Home Furnishings Corp. The Swatara Twp. store celebrated its reopening under the Good's name on Oct. 8, store manager Sam Miller said. The store will concentrate on higher-end merchandise than it did under Breuners, Miller said. Furniture lines include Hooker, Berkline, Lane, Steve Silver, Chromcraft and Bermex. Good said he has no plans to reopen the Carlisle Pike store, even though he still owns that property. The store is available for sale or lease.
