FTC OKs Mohawk/DuPont Temporary Fiber Designation

Washington, DC, April 26, 2006--The Federal Trade Commission granted Mohawk Industries Inc., Dupont Co. and PTT Poly Canada a temporary alphanumeric designation for a new fiber product they have created. DuPont last year provided ) Sorona, its newest polymer technology to Mohawk who manufactures and markets the technology under the brand SmartStrand. The FTC said the temporary designation, PTT001, is in response to the companies' petition to establish a permanent generic fiber subclassification under legislation commonly known as the Textile Rules. The subclassification is for fibers made from poly(trimethylene terephthalate), or PTT. The FTC said the temporary designation will be used while it completes its review of the petition.
