Free Carpet Installation Training Offered in Gulf

Biloxi, MS, May 31, 2006--Construction-related training is being offered tuition-free at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Jefferson Davis Campus. A carpet installation course will be offered for three weeks, June 12-30, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The 120-hour carpet installation class is part of Project Retrain, a specialized training program that teaches skills in particular areas so that individuals can become employed with contractors and construction companies working in the area. Instruction will be in industry-recommended training. Skills include specialized measurements, carpet tools, floor preparation, pattern matching, cutting and seaming, as well as a 10-hour OSHA safety training session. When finished, students will receive OSHA and The Carpet and Rug Institute certificates of training. Anyone interested in taking the class can do so at no cost if they meet the qualifications. The program is sponsored by Gulf Coast in partnership with The Carpet and Rug Institute, Shaw Industries, Inc., Mohawk Industries Inc., J & J Industries, Beaulieu of America, Mannington Mills Inc., Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce and The Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia.
