Florida Governor Wants Foreclosure Moratorium

Tallahassee, FL, Nov. 25, 2008--Florida Gov. Charlie Crist says he likes the idea of a moratorium on housing foreclosures in Florida.

Crist noted that mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac last week announced a temporary halt to foreclosures and evictions during the holiday season.

Crist said Monday that "some of those ideas we can learn from." The governor, though, was unsure whether that would require an act of the Legislature. He said to "stay tuned."

Florida's foreclosure rate ranked third nationally in October with 30,190 filings.

The National Association of Realtors estimated that 45% of home sales in October were homes in foreclosure.
