Flooring Installer Among Those Killed in Wisconsin

Haywood, WS, November 23--Among those gunned down and killed this past Sunday afternoon in the shooting rampage in the north woods of Wisconsin was Mark Roidt, 28, a hardwood flooring installer who was employed at Burnell's Decor in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Roidt was part of a group of more than a dozen hunters staying in lodges on wooded property near the town of Meteor in northwest Wisconsin. The gathering was an annual tradition that marked the opening weekend of Wisconsin's deer-hunting season. The authorities identified the others who were killed in the incident as Robert Crotteau, 42, and his son, Joey, 20; Al Laski, 43; and Jessica Willers, 27. A sixth person died Monday, but authorities had not released his name. Two additional hunters, including Jessica Willers' father, Terry Willers, remained hospitalized Monday. Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, Minnesota is being held as a suspect in a shooting spree, but has not as yet been changed It was reported that when members of the hunting group spotted Vang in their hunting platform in a tree they ask him to leave. Vang then got down from the deer stand, walked 40 yards, removed the scope from his rifle and open fire on the group. When one of the men who had been shot attempted to call for help on his radio, the suspect opened fire again, hitting others in the group who had just arrived on ATVs. About 20 shots were fired, but has not been established if anyone returned fire. The hunting party had only one gun among them.
