Flooring Industry Leaders Endorse INSTALL

St. Louis, May 7--The International Standards and Training Alliance (INSTALL) recently received formal endorsements from eight flooring industry leaders: ARDEX, Chicago Adhesive Products Company (CHAPCO), Dewey E. Taylor Consultants, Forbo Flooring, J&J Industries, Q.E.P. Co., Inc., Roberts Consolidated Industries, and Ulster Carpet. INSTALL is the floorcovering industry's only four-year classroom and on-the-job training program. Content of the program includes theory and practice of proper floor preparation, installation, and finishing procedures for carpet, linoleum, vinyl, hardwood, laminate, tile, stone, artificial turf and sports surfaces, and other accessories. "The success behind INSTALL's curriculum is constant review and counseling by technical and education representatives from major mills and manufacturers, such as those who most recently joined the INSTALL alliance," said Jim Schmid, International Director of Floorcovering for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which administers the INSTALL program at 25 training facilities throughout North America. Schmid explained that partnering with manufacturers allows for INSTALL professionals to learn skills that are needed in the current marketplace, which then raises the quality of installation. "We fully support the INSTALL commitment to raising the installation standards in the floorcovering industry," said John Chrzan, senior vice-president of sales for Q.E.P. and Roberts. Added Bruce Newbrough, manager of technical services for ARDEX, "INSTALL provides the kind of training the flooring industry needs to help ensure that the job is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations." These companies now join Armstrong World Industries, Inc., Johnsonite, Orcon Corporation, Pergo Inc., and Shaw Industries Group, Inc. as formal endorsers of INSTALL.
