Floor Focus Announces Visions Design Winners

Chattanooga, TN, March 19, 2010--Floor Focus announced the winners of its first annual Visions Design Awards, which celebrate the dynamic integration of flooring and architecture.

Visions featured four competition categories—large remodel, small remodel, large new construction and small new construction—and yielded an abundance of quality entries from all vertical segments. Floor Focus partnered with industry design leaders Bentley Prince Street, Crossville, Centiva and Johnsonite in sponsoring the competition.

The 2010 Visions Design Awards grand prize was awarded to Mancini Duffy for its design of Fitzpatrick Cella Harper & Scinto, an intellectual property law firm located in Manhattan; Mancini Duffy competed in the large remodel category.

Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects won the small remodel category for its Palm retail store in Rockefeller Center, New York.

In the category of large new construction, Hickok Cole Architects took the prize for its Blackboard Inc. headquarters project in Washington D.C.

DLR Group (and WWCOT) joined the winners circle in the category of small new construction for its Indio Teen Center, which sits 25 miles east of Palm Springs, Calif.

Key to the contest is the idea that any project can be entered, regardless of the materials used or the suppliers involved. All product names were removed from the entries, and the judges Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective, Jeffrey Kleinberg of MKDA, and Alison Faecher of TRO Jung|Brannen collaborated to choose the Visions winners based solely on the design of the project.

Honorable mentions were awarded in each category as well.

In large remodel, Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle was acknowledged for its Valspar Corporation Administrative Headquarters.

In small remodel, the Spector Group received mention for Nathan’s Famous corporate headquarters.

HOK was awarded the honorable mention in the large new construction category for its California State Teachers’ Retirement System.

AECOM won recognition for the Annenberg Space for Photography in the category of small new construction.

Floor Focus will begin accepting submissions for the 2011 Visions Design Awards in January of 2011.  The contest offers cash prizes for category winners.  Details may be found at www.floorfocus.com/designaward.
