Fire Hits Bealieu Plant, Extent of Damage Unknown
Dalton, GA, May 14, 2008—Beaulieu of America confirmed that a fire occurred in its Memofil Plant in Dalton, Georgia on Tuesday. All personnel were safely evacuated and no one was injured during the incident.
The fire was contained to one section of the plant, but the extent of damage is not yet known. Employees at the plant acted quickly to the emergency, notifying all others to evacuate and alerting the Dalton Fire Department, who responded
immediately.
"This was very unfortunate, but could have been disastrous and we are thankful no one was injured during the fire or the evacuation," said CEO Ralph Boe. We take safety very seriously at Beaulieu and are concerned about the well-being of all our associates. We feel the attention given to safe conscious practices in emergencies certainly helped in avoiding a catastrophe. Equipment can be replaced, but lives cannot."
Alternate supply arrangements are underway for product produced in the section affected in the facility. The larger section of the plant is in tact and production was resumed Tuesday evening.
Employees assigned to the affected facility will be redeployed to another in-town site, or assist in the cleanup and refurbishment. There are almost 300 people employed at Memofil, extruding BCF fibers. Beaulieu said that management will put its efforts into minimizing concerns for employees and getting the whole plant back to full production as soon as possible.
