Fire Guts Carpet Warehouse In Orlando

Orlando, FL, June 15--A three-alarm fire gutted the Motile Carpet and Tile Factory in northwest Orange County, sending plumes of smoke that could be seen for miles around, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Orlando Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Greg Hoggatt said Orlando units and their counterparts from the Orange County Fire Rescue agency went to Motile Inc. at 2930 Eunice Ave. after 911 calls alerted authorities to the blaze. Hoggatt said carpet pad stored at the warehouse rapidly spread the fire, which was reported at 4:19 p.m. It was under control an hour later, although hot spots remained through 6 p.m., Hoggatt said. No one was at the business at the time of the fire, Hoggatt said, and there were no injuries. Hoggatt said Motile Inc. conducts most of its business between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the doors were locked when firefighters arrived. More than 85 emergency personnel and 25 units responded. The cause of the fire is unknown and the State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate.
