Norfolk, NE, March 3--A fire caused an estimated $5 million damage to the Midwest Padding Co. carpet padding plant early Wednesday, according to the Sioux City Journal. There were no injuries.
The facility was totally destroyed.
The blaze started in the manufacturing process and spread quickly. Local residents were told to expect the site to smolder for days.
Midwest Padding employs about 70 people in Norfolk. Owner Al Collison said he doesn't yet know if the company, which has plants in other locations around the country, will rebuild the operation.
