Feltex Carpets to Cut 70 Jobs

Auckland, New Zealand, Feb. 13—It was reported that approximately 70 people will lose their jobs at a Christchurch carpet factory. Feltex Carpets employs 320 people at its Riccarton plant which makes woven carpet. Plant manager Noel Stewart says the high dollar New Zealand is one of the reasons for the redundancies. He says there has also been a global shift to the cheaper tufted carpet product and more third world nations are starting up carpet factories. Stewart says the exact number of job loses should become clearer by the end of the month.
