Fed Forum To Discuss Carpet Manufacturing
Washington, DC, Sept. 9, 2010--Senior officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration and Shaw Industries Group will convene on Friday, Sept. 10 to discuss the impact of sustainable manufacturing practices on the carpet industry and how implementation can make industry more competitive.
Ronald Lorentzen, deputy assistant secretary for Import Administration, and Kim Glas, deputy assistant secretary for textiles and apparel, will highlight the department's Sustainable Manufacturing Initiative resources available from the federal government to address the issue of advancing competitiveness through sustainability.
“The U.S. carpet and floor covering industry is among the most progressive industries in addressing environmental and sustainable manufacturing challenges and the opportunities associated with such practices can apply to most domestic manufacturing sectors,” Lorentzen said.”
According to the Carpet and Rug Institute, U.S. carpet mills have invested more than $400 million in new technology to improve sustainability.
The meeting will take place in the Shaw Administrative Building in Dalton, Ga. beginning at 8 a.m.
