Fed Chairman Bernanke Wins Another Term

Washington, DC, Jan. 29, 2010--The Senate voted 70 to 30 on Thursday to confirm Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve for another four-year term.

The vote was the closest ever for the confirmation of a fed chairman. Dissenters included members of both parties.

Critics said the Fed had abetted and ignored the housing and credit bubbles, and allowed banks to keep dangerously low capital reserves and to make reckless lending decisions that ruined consumers.

Supporters said Bernanke had helped save the economy from even worse circumstances.
