Calhoun, GA, October 6, 2006—Laminate producer the Faus Group, held the grand opening of its Calhoun, Georgia plant Thursday. On hand for the ribbon cutting opening was Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue and a host of state officials and officials from Valencia, Spain, the home of Faus.
Juan Negre, chairman and CEO, called the opening of the Calhoun plant “the most important event in the history of the Faus Group.” Thanking Perdue and the state’s marketing team for their support he said “This project has been nine years in the works.”
Governor Perdue said “The Faus Group is a testament as to why international businesses look to Georgia for business locations,” Perdue said. “Faus is a global leader in the laminate flooring industry with manufacturing operations in Europe and Asia, and they placed their trust in Calhoun, Georgia, to begin their U.S. manufacturing operations.”
“Today, we are having a ribbon cutting in Calhoun as we seek to gain a larger share of the U.S. market, the most sophisticated and demanding market in the world,” Flores said.
The 400,000 square-foot facility has been in production since mid-summer. At that point it opened with 75 employees; at present that number has increased to 160. When the company launches phase 2 next year it expects to increase the number of workers to 400.
Faus has operated an office in Dalton, Georgia since 1997.
