Factory Orders Up More Than Forecast

Washington, DC, Nov. 3, 2010 -- U.S. factory orders climbed more than forecast in September.

The 2.1% increase was the biggest since January, the Commerce Department said. The data also showed a drop in orders for capital equipment was smaller than estimated in last week’s report on durable goods.

Economists estimated that factory orders would rise 1.6%.

Demand for durable goods, which make up just over half of total factory demand, rose 3.5%.
