EPA Proposes Stricter PVC Production Emissions
Washington, DC, April 26, 2011 -- The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing stronger air emissions standards for polyvinyl chloride production facilities.
PVC resins are used to make a variety of productions including resilient flooring.
The new standards would require plants to reduce emissions of potentially carcinogenic chemicals like vinyl chloride and dioxin.
There are 17 PVC production facilities in the U.S., with most of them in Texas and Louisiana.
EPA estimates an overall total capital investment of $16 million, with an associated total annualized cost of $20 million, to meet the rule requirements.
The EPA will accept comments on the proposed standards until mid-June.
