Employers Add Most Jobs in More Than Two Years

Washington, DC, May 2, 2014 -- Employers added 288,000 jobs in April, the most in more than two years, according to the Labor Department.

Also, the unemployment rate fell to 6.3% from 6.7%, the lowest since September 2008, largely because 700,000 unemployed Americans quit looking for work.

Businesses added 273,000 jobs, hiring in professional and business services, retail and restaurants, and construction.

Job increases for February and March were revised up by a total 36,000.
