Economy Adds 214K Jobs, Unemployment Falls

Washington, DC, Nov. 7, 2014 -- Employers added 214,000 jobs in October, the Labor Department said.

The unemployment rate fell from 5.9% to 5.8%, lowest since July 2008.

The economy has added jobs for 49 straight months, for a total of 9.4 million. The private sector has added 10.6 million jobs over 56 consecutive months.

Last month, businesses added 209,000 jobs, on the strength of the leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, health care and retail industries.

Job gains for August and September were revised up by a total 31,000.
