Durable Goods Orders Rise in September

Washington, DC, Oct. 25, 2012 -- Durable goods orders surged in September, the Commerce Department said.

The government said orders climbed 9.9% last month, marking the biggest gain in more than a year and a half. Orders in August had declined by the largest amount in three years.

Most of the increase was due to higher orders for aircraft.

Economists had expected an 8.3% increase overall.
