Durable Goods Orders Fall Unexpectedly

Washington, DC, Jan. 28, 2014 -- Orders for durable goods declined unexpectedly  in December, according to the Commerce Department.

The government said orders for long-lasting manufactured goods fell 4.3%, depressed by weak demand for transportation equipment and capital goods, among other areas.

It was the largest since July.

Economists had expected orders to rise 1.8% in December after November's  3.4% increase.
