Chattanooga, TN, Dec. 10--The city of Chattanooga is planning to buy the former Dixie Group headquarters in Ridgedale for $315,000, according to the Chattanoogan.
Jerry Mitchell, city parks and recreation director, said the plan is to move a number of operations from Warner Park to the Ridgedale site.
He said that will allow Warner Park "to become more of a park."
Moving will be maintenance facilities, as well as recreational headquarters.
Mitchell said the property includes some four acres, and he said part of the land will become a neighborhood park.
He said there will be an area for Ridgedale citizens to meet. The city recently sold the former Ridgedale community center to McCallie School.
Officials said the property was initially offered for $1.1 million. They said Dixie Group had agreed to significantly lower the price and would be getting a tax writeoff.
Mitchell said some work needed to be done on the roof as well as some interior renovation.
