Dixie Doubled its Share Value in 2004
Chattanooga, TN, January 4—-The Dixie Group, a traditional, "old economy" Chattanooga-based company doubled its stock value in 2004 for the second consecutive year, according to the Chattanooga Times/Free Press. The company, which transformed itself in the 1990s from a yarn and thread maker to a specialty carpets producer, doubled in value for the second consecutive year. The North Georgia carpet firm benefited by growing sales and market share from its Masland, Fabrica International and Dixie Home lines, company president Dan Frierson said. "We're showing nice growth on both the top and bottom lines," Mr. Frierson said. "We've been able to focus on the high-end of the carpet business, which we think is growing much faster." Dixie's stock slumped in the late 1990s along with most textile companies but has bounced back in the past couple of years back to the peak levels reached in both 1993 and 1998. Dixie sold off its textile operations and about half of its carpet business over the past decade to focus on its higher-end carpet line production.
