Details Set for Home Depot’s New Texas Call Center
New Braunfels, TX, September 22--The new Home Depot call center announced in July will be a 60,000-square-foot facility and will employ at least 350 people and should open in New Braunfels early next year, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Mayor Adam Cork also made public the proposed financial incentives the city will give Home Depot. Cork said the city will not abate any property taxes for the company, but will refund 50 percent of the sales tax generated by the call center for 10 years.
"It's a perfect-type arrangement," Cork said. "We will give an incentive without any direct cost to the taxpayers. The more successful they are, the more successful we are. We are also going to waive the fees for their building permits."
The city does not have an estimate of how much the incentives will cost. The deal is expected to be approved by City Council members. Hiring is expected to start in the fourth quarter this year.
The center will be a nerve center for Home Depot Supply, a division that supports commercial customers, including homebuilders, contractors, hospitals, schools and government installations.
It is the third customer service center for the division and will have an estimated payroll of $7.2 million a year.
The jobs are welcome in New Braunfels, a city of about 40,000, which has lost more than 2,500 jobs in the past three years.
