Design College, AFA, Begin Dalton Internships

Dalton, GA, June 28, 2010--Savannah College of Art and Design, the American Floorcovering Alliance and nine AFA member companies in Dalton, Georgia have set up a summer internship program, according to a story in the Dalton Daily Citizen.

While talk among city and AFA officials is under way about the possibility of bringing a SCAD satellite campus to Dalton, college officials said there are no plans now to extend the relationship that far.

Allyson Faulk, Mohawk Industries’ creative design manager, said creating a partnership between the industry, the city of Dalton and SCAD could potentially boost the city’s economy and strengthen its long-term economic and quality of life goals through the University of Georgia’s Archway Partnership with Whitfield County and the city of Dalton’s Vision 2018 Plan.

Peter Sigmon, vice president for innovation at Shaw Industries, said there is the possibility of building upon the current relationship with SCAD.

“The potential of locating a world class design campus such as SCAD in Dalton will offer new opportunities, bringing diverse backgrounds and perspectives into the workplace,” he said.
