Demand Growing in U.S. for Indian Granite
New Delhi, India, July 5, 2006--Indian granite is being increasingly preferred over Italian marble in the bathrooms and kitchens of wealthy Americans. In 2004- 2005 India exported granite worth Rs3,050 crore. With export demand on the rise, Indian exporters have started buying granite slabs from Brazil to process them into tiles and then export them to the United States (US). Black granite from India, which has been given the nickname of Black Galaxy, has become a hot favorite in American households. Huge showrooms in California and New Jersey are selling black granite from India and major construction companies like Dal-Tile and Del Piso have been buying Indian granite worth $2.5 lakh per month from suppliers. Even Italy has started sourcing granite from India and exporting it to clients in America and Europe.
