Damavand Artists to Weave 'Roof of Iran' C

London, England, March 9, 2006--The historic carpet named “Roof of Iran” will soon be woven by two artists from Damavand, Tehran province, according to IranMania. Announcing this, designer of the carpet told IRNA that the design for the artwork has been completed and the carpet will measure one meter by 1.5 meter. Parvaneh Kefayati added that it took one year to design the carpet. "Weaving of the carpet will begin in April and take two years if funds are made available," she said. The carpet will feature Damavand Mountain at the center as the symbol of resistance, gardens from the city as well as historical monuments in that city including Sheikh Shebli Fort, Jame Mosque, Tar Lake and Ala Spring. The border of the carpet will feature pictures of garden products including apple, nuts, pear, beehives as well as rare animals in the region and flowers, Kefayati said. She further stated that the carpet will be woven by using silk and golden threads. The project, she added, seeks to introduce historical monuments, tourist attractions, cultural sites as well as recreational centers of Damavand. Upon completion, the carpet will be donated to Iran?s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Museum, she concluded.
