DAK Americas Issues Force Majeure on PET Resin

Charlotte, NC, May 4, 2021-The Alpek polyester business of DAK Americas has issued a force majeure due to the fact that its terephthalic acid facility in Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico is experiencing a water shortage.

The facility produces ~ 1 MTA of PTA used for polyester feedstock for the Alpke polyester businesses in North and South America and represents an important portion of the company’s raw material feedstock.

Drought conditions have resulted in a water shortage, a consequence of which is high levels of chloride, calcium hardwood and conductivity in the raw water that Alpek’s water treatment facilities are not designed to handle.

DAK is the largest supplier of PET in the U.S.
