Crossville’s Illuminessence Receives Good Design A

Crossville, TN, March 18-- If ever there was a no-nonsense name for a design award, this is it: The Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. Crossville, Inc. is both pleased and proud to announce that its Illuminessence Glass tile, which was designed by Boyce & Bean with color consultation by Barbara Schirmeister, was not only awarded a 2004 Good Design Award, but was one of only three recipients in the Building Materials category. This is the seventh award for Crossville’s Illuminessence Glass, which has received a Home Magazine American Kitchen & Bath Award; Buildings Magazine Innovation Award, Citation of Excellence for Workplace Aesthetics; NeoCon Best of Show Award; Flooring Magazine’s Innovation Award; ADEX Platinum Award; Buildings Magazine’s “Top Product Pick”; and an IIDA/Hospitality Design Magazine Product Design Competition Honorable Mention. The Good Design Show, the annual exhibition of the Awards, will open at the Chicago Athenaeum Museum in early summer; subsequently, the designs will be inducted into the museum’s permanent collection. Good Design was established in 1950 to honor design at its best. This year, the jury evaluated hundreds of entries from 40 countries, basing their awards on innovation, form, materials, construction, concept, function and utility, as well as appearance and aesthetic appeal. Founded in 1986, Crossville, Inc. is the largest domestic manufacturer of large-size Porcelain Stone® tile for both residential and contract applications.
