CRI Goes to Washington, Meets With Legislators
Dalton, GA, March 8, 2010--The Carpet and Rug Institute met with various southern U.S. congressional members in Febrary to discuss issues of interest to the carpet industry.
Making the trip were Brian Anderson, president, Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, Larry Cook of the Beaulieu Group and chairman of the CRI Government Issues Committee, Louis Fordham of J & J Industries, Rick Hooper of Shaw Industries, and Jim Lucke of Mohawk Industries.
The topics of interest included the Employee Free Choice Act bill to change how unions organize, which CRI strongly opposes. The group also lobbied for a home furnishings tax credit, and conveyed its concerns about proposed climate change legislation. The group supports a voluntary system to reduce greenhouse gases.
In addition, the group discussed a pending ruling by the Environmental Protection Agency regarding coal fly ash, which is used in carpet backing.
