Washington, DC, March 23--The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Hellenic have said that consumers should stop using Hellenic Rug Imports’ "Mazarakis Flokati 3A" and "Mazarakis Floco" white flokati rugs immediately unless otherwise instructed.
The number of product units involved in the recall is about 1,600 rugs
The CPSC said that certain rugs distributed from January 2003 through February 2004 fail to meet the federal mandatory standard for flammability under the Flammable Fabrics Act. If the rugs ignite, they may not self-extinguish, presenting a risk of burn injuries. There were no incidents or injuries however reported.
The recalled Mazarakis rugs are white only. Two models/sizes are recalled:
Mazarakis Flokati 3A measuring 5 feet by 7 feet, pile and backing 100 percent New Zealand wool and Mazarakis Floco measuring 5 feet, 6 inches by 8 feet, 6 inches, 100 percent New Zealand wool pile and 100 percent polypropylene backing. The rugs were manufactured in Greece
The products are sold on the web and by catalog retailers nationwide from January 2003 through February 2004 for between $179 and $299.
