CPI Up 0.2% in November

Washington, DC, December 17--The consumer price index rose 0.2 percent in November after rising 0.6 percent in October, the Labor Department said Friday. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy costs, also rose 0.2 percent, matching October's increase. Both readings were right in line with economists expectations. In the past year, the CPI has risen 3.5 percent, while the core rate has risen 2.2 percent. Energy and food prices each rose by 0.2 percent in November. Within the energy sector, gasoline prices fell 1.8 percent, while natural gas prices rose 5.4 percent. Prices for fuel oil and electricity also rose in November, by 3.6 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively. New vehicle prices rose 0.7 percent in November, marking the largest gain in 14 years.
