CPI Unchanged in June

Washington, DC, July 14--Consumer prices in June were unchanged as energy prices actually fell, according to a Labor Department report. The core index, which excludes food and energy prices, increased 0.1%. Economists were expecting increases of 0.2% increase in both the overall index and the core index. In the past year, the CPI is up 2.5%, the lowest year-over-year gain since September. The core CPI is up 2% in the past 12 months, in the middle of the Federal Reserve's comfort zone. Energy prices during the month fell 0.5%. Food prices were up 0.1%. Housing prices rose 0.1%.
