Coverings Calls for Entries for 2006 Prism Stone A
Alexandria, VA, November 29, 2005--Prize money totaling $19,000 will be awarded to those architects, designers, builders, contractors, distributors, retailers, installers and other professionals who submit the winning entries in the 2006 PRISM Stone in Architecture Awards. Honoring outstanding and visionary use of natural stone in residential, institutional and commercial projects, the PRISM Stone in Architecture Awards are presented at Coverings, the world’s largest trade show exposition for tile and stone. Winners are selected by an independent group of judges and are announced at Coverings’ opening ceremony on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, which officially signals the start of the four-day event. “We are both privileged and proud to work with Coverings and Architectural Record in coordinating the PRISM Stone in Architecture Awards,” said Garis F. Distelhorst, executive vice president of the Marble Institute of America. “The award is the ultimate recognition for the creative and innovative use of this material.” The Marble Institute of America (MIA), the stone industry’s leading resource for information and education, and Architectural Record, the official publication of the American Institute of Architects, are coordinating the competition. Mike Gilbert, Midwest Manager at Architectural Record, concurred. "The PRISM Awards are a testament to the industry’s best examples of natural stone installations. It has been an honor to partner with the MIA and Coverings for the past three years to uncover these examples, and we can't wait to see what this year will bring." “The PRISM Stone in Architecture competition is important because it tells our industry that we must continue to advance the use of stone, not only because of its historic importance as a primary building material, but because it is essential to the architecture of the 21st century,” remarked Brad Lukanic, of New York City-based architecture firm Holzman Moss and winner of the Institutional First Prize in 2005. To qualify, single or multiple entries must be received by Friday, February 3, 2006, and projects must have been completed within the timeframe of January, 2002-December, 2005. Each submission must be accompanied by a pocket folder with an official entry form, a typed project description and identification information, high resolution photography and a $100 single entry fee (plus $85 for each subsequent entry). In addition to the $10,000 Grand Prize, a total of $9,000 will be awarded to the First Prize and Award of Merit winners in each category.
