New York, NY, January 16--The demand for ethanol made from corn is on the rise as oil prices remain aloft, and new state environmental regulations require more ethanol to be mixed with gasoline, according to a New York Times report.
Last year the price of ethanol reached $1.75 a gallon, boosting the price of a bushel of corn as high as $2.10 in some parts of Iowa, the paper says, adding that this year the number of ethanol plants in Iowa is expected to rise from 19 to 27 this year.
