Core Inflation Remains Tame in September

Washington, DC, Oct. 19, 2011 -- Gas and food prices in September sent the Consumer Price Index up 0.3% last month, according to the Labor Department.

Prices over the last year increased 3.9% from 3.8% in August.

The core rate, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose a smaller 0.1% in September, keeping its 12-month increase at 2.0%.
