Consumer Sentiment Up in July

New York, July 27, 2007--Consumer sentiment rose 5.1 points in July to 90.4, according to the preliminary Reuters/University of Michigan index.

 

The index was at 92.4 in mid-July and at 85.3 in June.

 

The expectations index rose to 81.5 from 74.7. The current conditions index rose to 104.5 from 101.9.

All three indexes were below the mid-July preliminary readings.

 

The index has averaged 88.1 since monthly data were first compiled in 1978.

 

 The expectations index rose to 79 this month from 75.9 in April.

 

The current index fell to 103.8 from 104.6.

 

The index is based on a telephone survey of about 300 households. The final report for the month, due June 1, will reflect about 500 responses.
