Consumer Sentiment Up

Ann Arbor, MI, May 27--Consumer sentiment, according to the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index, rose in late May. The index increased to 86.9 in late May from 85.3 earlier in the month. Economists were expecting the index to rise to only 85.6 in late May. The expectations index was revised up to 75.3 compared with the initial estimate of 73.7. The expectations index was 77.0 in April. The current conditions index was revised to 104.9 from 103.3. It stood at 104.4 in April.
