Consumer Sentiment Revised Down for January

Ann Arbor, MI, Jan. 30, 2009--The final consumer sentiment survey from Reuters and the University of Michigan for January was revised down from preliminary estimates, bringing the headline index lower to 61.2 compared to the preliminary 61.9 level.

Economists were expecting no revisions following December's reading of 60.1.

The consumer outlook component was revised up to 57.8 in January, compared to the preliminary 57.2 level and the November reading of 54.0.

The economic conditions component was also revised down to 66.5 from a 69.2 reading in the preliminary estimates and a 69.5 reading in November.

One-year inflation expectations was revised up to 2.2% from 2.0%, while the five-year inflation expectations fell to 2.9% from the 3.0% reported in the preliminary report
