Consumer Sentiment Highest in More Than a Year

Ann Arbor, MI, Sept. 26, 2014 -- Consumer sentiment was as its highest level in more than a year this month, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan index.

The final September reading on the overall index finished at 84.6, the highest since July 2013, and up from 82.5 at the end of August.

"The main factor promoting greater confidence in September was more favorable prospects for the domestic economy as well as more favorable personal income expectations," survey director Richard Curtin said in a press release.

Curtin said the September index reading likely indicates increased consumer spending in the next 12 months.
