Consumer Confidence Ticks Higher in September

New York, NY, Sept. 27, 2011 -- Consumers' confidence in the economy edged higher in September although it remained at a weak level, according to the Conference Board.

The increase came after the survey recorded a post-recession low the previous month.

The Conference Board said that its Consumer Confidence Index was at 45.4, up slightly from a revised 45.2 in August.

Economists had expected a reading of 46.

A reading above 90 indicates the economy is expanding strongly.
