Collins & Aikman Sees 2nd Quarter Profit

Troy, MI, July 9—Automotive carpetmaker Collins & Aikman Corp., said it expects to post a second-quarter operating profit of $21 million to $27 million after restructuring costs. The company said sales for the quarter would be in the range of $1.02 billion to $1.04 billion. Restructuring expenses were estimated at $11 million and asset-impairment expenses at $28 million. In the year ago second-quarter, Collins & Aikman posted a net profit of $10.7 million, or 13 cents a share, on sales of $1.03 billion.
