Cole's Flooring Celebrates 60 Years in San Diego
San Diego, CA, May 10, 2007--Coles Fine Flooring celebrates a major milestone in 2007, as the region’s leading fine floor covering retailer marks six decades of success in San Diego County.“What an amazing ride the last 60 years have been,” said George Coles, president of Coles Fine Flooring. “Three generations of the Coles family have worked in our stores, and we are thrilled to consistently provide our customers with the very best in service and a product guarantee unmatched in the industry.”
Laid end to end, the floor coverings sold by Coles in its 60 years could circle the entire globe! Beginning in 1947 with their first fine home furnishings store in downtown La Jolla selling carpets, furnishings and area rugs, the Coles family can now look back at 60 years of constant growth, celebrating their diamond anniversary at their large headquarters on West Morena Blvd. and seven other locations.
One of the keys of the Coles’s success is the company’s diversification. Over the years they have responded to the increased demand for high-end design, expanding into all areas of floor coverings, including wall-to-wall carpet, area rugs, hardwood floors, laminates, tile, marble and stone flooring, and even window coverings.
“It’s been fascinating to see trends change over the decades, from the flocked carpet of the 1950s to the shag of the 1970s, to the soaring popularity of hardwoods in the 1980s and 1990s, and the reappearance of tile and stone in the 2000s,” said Liz Hyma, general sales manager at Coles. “Coles Fine Flooring has always prided ourselves on being trendsetters, not just trend followers, offering the very latest design ideas in our showrooms. Interestingly, we now see designers gravitating back to shag carpet and other design elements of the ‘70s, only now they call it flokati,” she added.
The family moved from La Jolla to the company’s current headquarters on West Morena Boulevard, and has since added stores in SolanaBeach, San Marcos and El Cajon. They also operate four locations on the major military installations in San Diego County (Camp Pendleton, MCAS Miramar, 32nd Street Naval Station and the Marine Corps Recruit Depot).
George Coles names his dedicated employees as one of the biggest reasons for the company’s success over the last six decades. “The level of service they provide keeps customers coming back,” said Coles. “We have served the same families time and time again, often spanning multiple generations. We know it is the personal attention each individual person receives that converts someone from a one-time purchaser to a customer for life.”
