Chicago Manufacturing Surges Higher in January

Chicago, IL, Feb. 28, 2011 -- Chicago-area manufacturing accelerated at a faster-than-expected pace in February.

The Purchasing Managers Index rose to 71.2 from 68.8 in January, ahead of the 67.7 forecast by economists.

The jump was led by a rise in production. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion.
