Chas Sydney Takes On Additional Role At AmericasMa
Atlanta, GA, Oct. 17--AmericasMart gains additional momentum with the appointment of Chas Sydney as senior vice president of new business development for AMC, Inc., parent of AmericasMart. His appointment signals continuing focus on new business opportunities and customer service enhancements. Additionally, Sydney continues his long-standing area rug industry leadership role as senior vice president of floorcoverings. In his new capacity, Sydney is charged with identifying new business opportunities--those within AmericasMart’s existing core business units, as well as external development opportunities. Sydney’s roots run deep at AmericasMart. A 23-year AMC, Inc. veteran, Sydney designed and developed countless global sales, marketing and buyer and exhibitor relations initiatives for the Area Rug Center, including America’s Magnificent Carpets Awards—the industry’s premier celebration of design excellence, the Rug Retailer of the Year (ROY) Awards and the National Oriental Rug Show (NORS). Under his leadership, AmericasMart’s Area Rug Center has evolved to become the preeminent and long-preferred destination for area rug retailers and exhibitors. Its more than 500,000 square feet of exhibit space is home to more than 200 of the industry’s most important and distinguished area rug manufacturers and artisans. Sydney began his career at the Marist School in Atlanta in 1969. There he taught college preparatory English and served as assistant coach of its football and basketball programs. He also served as the Director of Sales & Marketing for Auction America and as the Chief Executive Officer of World of Wheels, Inc., the largest high performance auto show in the Southeast, with shows in Atlanta and Tampa, Florida. In 1980, he joined AmericasMart, the nation's largest gift, home furnishings and area rug wholesale marketplace, as director of trade shows. Sydney served as vice president of area rug leasing prior to his appointment as senior vice president.
